I never really write big, lofty resolutions for myself at the start of a new year. I am forever quitting sodas, trying to eat better, trying to be a better mom, wife, friend… isn’t that the main idea? We write these resolutions, but couldn’t you just sum it up with “be a better person?” This year I decided to make five personal resolutions/goals for both my personal life and my blog.

Be present and live in the moment. I find that after having my second child, somehow my first child’s life is going by faster. I can’t believe she will be six years old next week. I need to stop worrying about tomorrow, and live for today.
Meal planning! I’ll be honest, I hate to cook. My husband usually does most of the cooking (and dishes…) and I know sometimes he gets tired of it. He’s a meat & vegetables kind of guy and I’m a pasta/bread/cheese loving kind of gal… and we have one fickle little eater to please as well.
Waking up for my kids, not to my kids. This is probably going to be the hardest one. (Yeah, even harder than losing 30 pounds ha-ha). When I attended Mama’s Write Conference last year, one of the speakers, Kat Lee, touched on this subject and her Hello Mornings Challenge. I want nothing more than to sleep in on Saturday morning (my ONE day!). But you know what, that’s also my one full day to spend with my kids. I’m tired of always feeling rushed & behind in the mornings. I would love to plan my day to start earlier so I can purposely get up before the kids, do what I need to do, and maybe even have a little quiet time alone. I think this would dramatically change the mood of my day.
Lose 30lbs. I talked a little bit about my weight loss goals here. I have 10-lbs of baby weight and another 20lbs more to be at my “goal” weight. I want to lose the 10lbs before March (Blissdom Conference) and the remaining 20lbs before June (BlogHer Food Conference).
Most days, I feel like my house is out of control. I try to keep the girls on a little bit of a schedule (read: bedtimes & Sophia’s eating/napping schedule), but other than that we pretty much fly by the seat of our pants. I want to have more family time, more one on one time with the girls, way more time with my husband. I kept waiting to feel like I was adjusted to his 24on/ 48off shift schedule… but I’m beginning to realize that maybe this is what adjusted feels like. It’s hard. It makes planning meals, doctor’s appointments, kid functions, etc. all the more difficult. My kindergartner especially needs this structure.

One of the best things I did was “attend” the Online Blog Conference put on by Dorothy & Ashton. We have kept up a great support group of attendees on Facebook, and I’ve really come to appreciate that group! If you are a blogger, I so encourage you to network and find other blogging groups to connect with. I’m also a part of a Texas Bloggers group and a Dallas Area Moms group. It’s nice to share in the ups & downs with other people who *get it*.
I attended a photography seminar last fall, I’m beginning to invest in equipment, and I’ve finally come to the realization that natural light is king. I really want to grow in this area. Any tips– send them my way!
I can’t believe I just celebrated my 2nd blogiversary. The first year was really inconsistent and I’ve only started to find my place in the last 6 months or so. I hope to be more consistent and keep the momentum moving!
I’m really excited about the new community I launched at the end of last year. I know there are many of you who are making resolutions to be healthier and get fit, and this community may be just what you need to see your goals through. Find out more here.
It’s hard working full-time, juggling a family, and trying to maintain a food blog. I feel like I’ve fallen more into the niche of “lifestyle” blogger, but my passion is really for baking. Somehow there are just not enough hours in the day for me to develop a recipe, procure the ingredients, bake it, and then photograph it during the optimum daylight hours, edit it, and post about it! I’m exhausted just typing that. I admire the bloggers who are able to post fresh, new content every day! I hope by planning in advance I can start to get ahead of the game. I also want to try vlogging! Maybe video making the recipe? Or a workout routine?
